Georgios I. Spanos

Professor Emeritus of Pedagogy at the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy, Psychology (PPP) of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). His specialty is "Teaching Methodology and Evaluation of the Curriculum of Language and Literature". He is a graduate of the Department of Classical Philology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Department of PPP of the NKUA. As an IKY scholar, he completed his Doctoral Thesis on the topic: "Pedagogical, Psychological and Didactic view of the course of Modern Greek in Secondary Education based on the Curriculum". He worked (1972-1984) as a professor in public Secondary Education (Secondary Schools of Kymi and Anakassa, 2nd Lyceum of Kifissia, Model School of Anavryta). He was elected and served as a faculty member of the Department of PPP (1993-2013) and has been the Director of the Department of Pedagogy, of the Postgraduate Program "Theory, Practice and Evaluation of Educational Work", and President of the PPP. He represented the Senate of the NKUA in the formation of the institutional framework for the Organization and Operation of the Program for the provision of the Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Adequacy (2010-2013). His undergraduate and postgraduate didactic work as well as his research activity mainly concerns the following subjects: Theory and Practice of Literature Teaching, Theory and Practice of Language Teaching, Teaching Methodology of Written Speech Production, Language Proficiency: Theory and Practice, Classroom, Teaching Practice and Pedagogical Adequacy, The Relationship between Curriculum and School Textbook. His books include: 1. The Modern Greek Language in Secondary Education, published by Kritiki, 2012, 2. Linguistic Adequacy: Theory and Practice, published by Grigoris (2002) (research team), 3. Teaching Methodology vol. A [for poetry and vol. B for the short story (2003 and 2010)].


Michele Cometa

Born in Palermo (1959), Full Professor of Cultural History and Visual Culture at the University of Palermo. He held important institutional positions at the University of Palermo.

He has published many books, and many papers in international journals as well as in conference proceedings"

  • 1999 Ervino-Pocar-Prize of the City Gorizia for literary translation (German-Italian).
  • 2017 Prize Pozzale Luigi Russo (Empoli) for the book “Perché le storie ci aiutano a vivere” (Cortina, Milano, 2017).

Vincenzo Rotolo

Professor Emeritus of the University of Palermo, born in Ciminna (Palermo) in 1931, he studied classical philology at the University of Palermo, he attended the school of the distinguished Hellenist Bruno Lavagnini and then he attended courses in Ancient Greek, Byzantine Philology and Modern Greek Philology at the University of Thessaloniki. From 1954 to 1964 he served at the Italian Cultural Institute in Athens. After a study dedicated to pantomime in antiquity (1957), the focus of his scientific interests was gradually shifted from classical philology to medieval and modern Greece. Having served as a professor in secondary education (Latin and Greek in high school), from 1968 to 2003 he held the chair of modern Greek language and literature at the School of Letters of the University of Palermo. In 1992, after the death of the founder of the Sicilian Institute of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, Professor Bruno Lavagnini, he was appointed chairman of the Institute, a position which he held until 2021. He has been a member of the international committee for the selection of professors of philology at the University of Cyprus. He has been awarded honorary degrees by the University of Athens (1991) and the University of Cyprus (2005). Since 1992, he is a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Athens. In 2017 he was honored with the Order of the Phoenix by the President of the Hellenic Republic. In 2021 he was honored with the "Jean Moréas" award. He has more than 200 publications.
